Protect and Improve.
Environment
Protecting Pelham’s environment has been a priority throughout my time on Council. I believe environmental stewardship and responsible financial management go hand in hand. As a champion of Zero Emission Communities, I support practical solutions that reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, protect our natural heritage, and create a healthier, more sustainable future for Pelham.
Protecting Pelham’s Tree Canopy
Modernizing Pelham’s Tree Protection Bylaw
I supported updating Pelham’s Tree Protection Bylaw to strengthen protection of mature trees while ensuring clear and practical regulations for residents.
Protecting our tree canopy improves air quality, reduces urban heat, supports biodiversity, and preserves the natural character that makes Pelham special.
Establishing a Heritage Tree Program
I championed the creation of a Heritage Tree Program to recognize and protect significant trees that are part of Pelham’s history and natural heritage.
This program helps preserve important environmental benefits while ensuring future generations can enjoy these community landmarks.
Responsible Environmental Management
Championing Energy Sustainability
As a founding member of the Town’s Utility Sustainability Committee, established in 2019, I have advocated for responsible energy management and long-term sustainability.
I supported electricity and natural gas hedging programs that provide greater cost stability for taxpayers while improving municipal planning.
In 2024, I authored Pelham’s Conservation and Demand Management Plan, creating a roadmap to:
✓ Reduce energy consumption.
✓ Improve municipal efficiency.
✓ Lower greenhouse gas emissions.
✓ Identify future renewable energy opportunities.
Investing in Environmental Infrastructure
Protecting Pelham’s environment requires investment in practical solutions. I have supported initiatives that protect 12 Mile Creek, improve water quality, preserve habitat, and strengthen stormwater management.
The rehabilitation of the Rice Road stormwater management pond was recognized in 2025 with the Ontario Public Works Association Small Communities Project of the Year Award, recognizing Pelham’s leadership in sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection.
A Vision for Pelham’s Environmental Future
Environmental protection and responsible growth must work together. My priorities are:
✓ Protecting forests, wetlands, waterways, and green spaces.
✓ Expanding and preserving Pelham’s tree canopy.
✓ Advancing Zero Emission Communities initiatives.
✓ Supporting energy efficiency and sustainable municipal operations.
✓ Preparing for climate change and severe weather events.
✓ Ensuring growth respects Pelham’s natural heritage.
Pelham’s natural beauty is one of the reasons families choose to call our community home. Through responsible leadership, practical investments, and long-term planning, we can protect that legacy for today’s residents and future generations.
